What is Parkinson's?
Parkinson’s is a neurodegenerative condition. It is estimated that 7 to 10 million people worldwide are living with Parkinson’s. About 15% of Americans living with Parkinson’s are diagnosed under the age of 50. There are effective medications but there is no cure. Exercise is key to maintaining a good quality of life.
Exercise is deliberate movement that enhances one’s heart rate for 30 minutes. Exercise for people with PD should include strengthening, balance, and flexibility training.
Exercise creates endorphins, including serotonin and dopamine, which positively affect mood and movement.
People with Parkinson’s need exercise daily to enhance their natural dopamine and serotonin levels, and thus slow the progression of symptoms
Why ride together?
Riding together will encourage movement and build confidence in what we CAN do.
